Adult Support Worker

Location: Tagsa Uibhist, Balivanich, Isle of Benbecula.

Hours: Part-time, 14 hours per week.

Contract Type: 1-Year Fixed-Term.

Salary: £14.54 or £15.17 per hour (depending on qualifications).

To help us on this mission, we are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Adult Support Worker to join our team on a part-time basis. In this role, you will provide high-quality support to adults. This is a 1-year fixed-term position, offering 14 hours per week.

Job Description:

Directly providing support for Tagsa’s Adult Support (TAS) service users, reducing loneliness and isolation, providing company and stimulation and communicating any concerns about their wellbeing within Tagsa Uibhist and to other relevant professionals. Supporting service users to participate in Tagsa Uibhist’s TAS projects. Supporting families and carers by providing respite care and support.

This Support Worker (TAS) works from the base of Tagsa Uibhist’s office in East Camp, Balivanich, Isle of Benbecula to make regular visits to our clients in their homes and for project activities that they are participating in.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Encourage and facilitate social activities and community engagement.
  • Communicate effectively with service users, their families, and other members of the care team.
  • Promote a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment.
  • Directly provide support for TAS service users to enhance their wellbeing.
  • Implement a schedule of regular visits to service user’s homes to reduce their loneliness and isolation, and to provide company and cognitive/social stimulation.
  • Accompany and support service users to Tagsa Uibhist projects activities as appropriate and agreed with the Care Manager and Care Coordinator.
  • Update Care Planner records after each visit/group activity, risk assess as required, update Care Plans every 6 months.
  • Provide weekly and monthly reports on activities, clients, outcomes and lessons learned to the Care Manager.
  • Refer to Tagsa Uibhist’s Care Plans for each service user to ensure appropriate care and good coordination.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in Tagsa Uibhist’s various departments – Care, Transport, Gardens and Mental Health and Wellbeing, making referrals and connections to meet assessed needs and to enhance the level of service provided.
  • Make referrals to other services that service users may benefit from (as agreed with the service user).
  • Communicate any concerns about their wellbeing within Tagsa Uibhist and to other relevant professionals.
  • Support the families and carers of service users by providing respite care and support.

Skills, experience and qualifications:

  • A passion for working with people and providing person-centred care.
  • Comprehensive understanding of adult and elderly health issues.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to communicate with a range of people using a variety of communication methods.
  • Knowledge of Gaelic is a desirable asset as most of our service users speak Gaelic.
  • Knowledge of Personal Care Planning and Risk Management.
  • Knowledge of Health and Social Care Standards. 
  • Ability to plan the work of self and others.
  • The capacity to work under pressure and to take a problem-solving approach to work.
  • 2+ years’ work experience in social care, public health, or related field.
  • SVQ2 or above in Social Care or willingness to work towards at least SVQ2.
  • Ability to travel locally.
  • Clean driving licence.

As we continue to provide care at home, respite care and support for dementia from Eriskay to Berneray we are looking for new carers to join our team. We offer comprehensive training and a career path, including supported SVQs, so feel free to contact us if you have no previous experience of care but are willing to be trained.

All of Tagsa Uibhist’s staff are paid more than the Living Wage for the hours they work. We can be flexible with the hours you would work to fit with other commitments you have, and also providing a regular pattern of work.

Care Assistant

Responsibilities:

  • Provide personal care and assistance to clients in their daily living activities at home.
  • Support clients with mobility and transferring, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Administer medication in accordance with established protocols and document accurately.
  • Assist with meal preparation, ensuring dietary requirements and nutrition are met.
  • Offer companionship and emotional support, engaging in meaningful conversations and activities.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment for clients, including light housekeeping tasks.
  • Collaborate with the care team to develop and implement individual care plans.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a care or healthcare setting is preferred, but we also welcome candidates with a genuine passion for caring for others.
  • Possess a caring and empathetic nature, with a genuine interest in the well-being of others.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients and their families.
  • Reliable, punctual, and organized, with excellent time management skills.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including some weekends and holidays.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation. If you don’t have your own vehicle, Tagsa may be able to lend you a car.
